Super Update

Hello All. Haven't written in a bit due to various factors, that being having recently graduated and getting diagnosed with diabetes. Not to worry, its (mostly) under control, going to lots of appointments, etc.

Anyway, I recently did a T shirt design for my boyfriend's birthday, heres the design:
After some Adobe magic this is what the image looks like. On the shirt it looks a bit weird but I used a service to turn it into a shirt anyway... regardless my image is on a shirt and its awesome!!

Shirt pics coming soon~

Do you sweat when you die

This is some random thought I had when i was looking at the work of Brad Neely.

I love that man; he draws ugly as fuck but I love the sincerity in his work. Oh and 10+ points for being hilarious.

I guess this may be a precursor to my eventual insanity. WHATEVER WORKS!!

Character of the NOW - Ghost Knight, Klaudas

kladuasstudy2

Ah, heres Klaudas, ghost knight doomed to walk a forbidden castle (which castle? I dont know yet...). But anyway, here he is. I made him up a year ago i think... while I was taking this class about King Arthur related literature.

I dont have many (if any..?) ghost characters, so I like him alot. Even if i like him i havent given much thought to how he completely looks, so i took some time to plan him out a little bit. I had some trouble with his armor, and had to edit some of my original ideas, but Im almost there. He still needs some tweaking, though.

I want to end up with a final, color character render. I know the colors and the pose, etc etc I just have to get his final design down :B

More sketches to come (hopefully)

Radcliffe Studies

Yesterday, I sat down to doodle this character.  He's one of my favorites and hes always great to draw even if it was a little hard... his hat bugged me alot).

Ill talk a bit about him before getting into my lengthy discussion:  I sat down to do this because...  hes one of my more compelling characters.  The way I drew him here, i think it demonstrates how I draw, its super loose but it tightens up after a while.  My mind usually fills in the blanks with the looser ones, so i dont spend more time on them but you can tell where i really payed attention to detail.  If it looks animated thats good; I want my sketches to have a more animated feel to them, its gonna be better for the work I wanna do in the future.

Which is gonna lead me into my next discussion!!!

Drawing him I had something in my mind because, Id recently come to realize that even though I want to go into character design, which is all about how a character looks, Im really more interested in how a character feels.  When I think so cinematically, it gets me in touch with emotions more than visuals.  Does that make sense?  I think its alot more important to have characters touch on an emotional level rather than a visual level, I mean, you can have an ugly character but if their emotionally compelling you can forgive their ugliness.

The things im keeping in mind though, are movies  like the Miyazaki movies, or the older final fantasies, or other animated movies.  Im taking more cues from animated movies because, as much as I like concept art, I want to get some kind of emotional response too (its not concept arts fault; after all, its all about visuals).

I want to find some kind of balance, cool looking stuff that can grip you emotionally too.  My mind has been working in nothing but this way and its so awesome I can hardly express it, but anyway...  Ill have to experiment with more sketches, which i will!

thats all for now, Ill have another discussion up tomorrow~

Update 2

AHHH, so much to do!

Its all nearly over though; tomorrow the senior class is gonna meet with artists and directors; exciting!

I got practically everything done too.... *whew*. Once things finally die down, Im hoping to start up some new pieces, using some paint I got from Blick with Abe the other day. Greens and purples, pretty colors! I wont have time for that though... until after tomorrow x_x

Anyway, sketches and things to come, for later~
